The True Miracle

The True Miracle

And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “Aha! You who would destroy the temple and rebuild it in three days, save yourself, and come down from the cross!” So also the chief priests with the scribes mocked him to one another, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself. Let the Christ, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe.”

Mark 15:29–32.

On the cross, Jesus was mocked and derided. They used his own words against him. They wanted him to save himself as if that would prove something amazing. They wanted him to come down from the cross so that they could “see and believe,” as if that is from where the blessing sprung.

But they believed the wrong thing. The true miracle wasn’t coming down; it was staying put. He would not save himself so that he could save others.
